Jon Russell Herring

Jon is a teacher and writer who lives in Navarra, Spain. He studied French and Spanish at Oxford, and learned Portuguese via Skype chats in the 2020-21 lockdowns.

He has an MA in Literary Translation from UEA and he works from Portuguese, Spanish and Basque.

As well as being the first Queer Digital Resident for 9 months at the Poetry Translation Centre in London, he was selected for the UNESCO Cities of Literature poetry programme in Ljubljana in 2023. In 2024, Jon was commissioned to translate Manuel Mutimucuio's 'Moçambique with a Z' and co-translated the opening of Michel Laub's 'A Walk with the Giant' with Daniel Hahn. His first solo PT>EN publication, Tobias Carvalho's 'As coisas que a gente faz pra gozar', appeared in December. He was guest translator at the Ledbury Poetry Festival 2024, and the fruits of that workshop appeared in the poetry anthology Hemisferio Cuir in spring 2025.

Jon is currently working on Spanish and Brazilian prose texts, and on collections by two young Argentinian poets. He's interested in lit fic, poetry and experimental writing. His contact details are at the Website button (LinkTree) above.
