Júlia Irion Martins
Júlia Irion Martins is a Brazilian-American translator and scholar. She holds an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of Toronto and is currently a PhD candidate in Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan. She began her translation work as a a pro-bono translator for Freedom House Detroit, where she translated testimonies and clerical documents from PT-EN for asylum cases. Irion Martins now focuses on literary translation. She is the translator of Bianca Santana's Jabuti Award-winning book, QUANDO ME DESCOBRI NEGRA, and serves on the editorial board of the University of Michigan's literary translation magazine, Absinthe. In 2024, she will guest edit an issue of Absinthe on contemporary Brazilian literature. Most recently, Irion Martins has finished an internship in the Rights Department at Fósforo Editora in São Paulo, where she is currently based.
