Daniel Hahn

I'm a writer, editor and translator (from Portuguese, Spanish and French) with about a hundred books published to date.

My book-length translations from Portuguese include fiction by José Eduardo Agualusa, Gonçalo M. Tavares, Carola Saavedra, Kalaf Epalanga, Paulo Scott, Michel Laub, Clara Drummond, José Luís Peixoto, Machado de Assis, Julián Fuks and Antônio Xerxenesky; children's/YA books by Socorro Acioli, Ana Pessoa and Roger Mello; as well as non-fiction (Sidarta Ribeiro, Fernando Haddad), plays (Nelson Rodrigues, Tiago Rodrigues), and - very occasionally, and under duress - poetry. I've recently done samples of new books by Madalena Sá Fernandes, João Tordo, Morgana Kretzmann, Bernardo Carvalho, Gabriel Abreu and Matilde Campilho.

My own writing includes "Catching Fire: A Translation Diary".

My work has won the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize and the International Dublin Literary Award and been shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize, among others.

I'm a former chair of the UK's Translators Association and one of the founding committee members of PELTA.
