I've been a translator for over fifteen years, and my literary translations include the novels The Love of Singular Men and Glória by the late Brazilian author Victor Heringer (the latter in a co-translation with Sophie Lewis). The Love of Singular Men was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize and shortlisted for the ALTA First Translation Prize, and won the 2024 Jabuti Prize for the Best Brazilian Novel Published Abroad. It’s currently shortlisted for the Translators Association/Society of Authors First Translation Award. I’ve also translated two Victor Heringer short stories for Granta, and a crônica, or short personal essay, for Grand Journal, as well as translating in many other areas, including academic and scientific articles, film subtitles, art writing and journalism - I was the lead translator at Sumaúma, an Amazon-based trilingual news platform, between September 2022 and April 2023, and the interim editor of the English language section of the Folha de São Paulo in 2015. I'm also a writer, and my short fiction has appeared in a number of literary journals, most recently The Stinging Fly, and been shortlisted for the Sean O'Faolain, Wasafiri, Fish & Bath short story awards. I lived in Brazil between 2005 and 2017, where, as a foreign correspondent, I wrote for Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, The Observer, The Independent and others. I was the winner of the 2022 Peirene Stevns Translation Prize.
