Sarah Greenwood

Sarah Greenwood is a poet and translator from Portuguese to English. Originally from Blackburn, UK, she emigrated to Southern Portugal in 2005.

She holds a Diploma in Translation from the Chartered Institute of Linguists and a BA in Drama from The University of Hull and in a somewhat distant past has worked as an actor, production assistant and street performer with giant puppets.

She is a coordinator for the multi-lingual poetry and translation festival Casa dos Poetas, which takes place in the medieval city of Silves each year and currently serves on the PELTA committee as chair. She is also a founding member of ERMO, a cultural activism association based in the Algarve.

Her translation of the play 'The Door Closed and the House was Small' by Ricardo Neves-Neves was selected and performed for Out of the Wings Festival 2022 and was published with Inti Press in 2023.

She is interested in using translation as a tool to amplify the voices of under-represented writers, especially those of women, immigrants and LGBTQIA+ folk and also particularly from Portugal and the Algarve, where she lives and works.
